Codec Pack Advanced

Cole2k Media's former comprehensive Windows codec package, retained here for historical reference.

This Cole2k package is retired.

The original V8.0.6 package is no longer the recommended download. Current development continues as Media Player Codec Pack Plus.

About Codec Pack Advanced

The Advanced Codec Pack was an easy-to-install collection designed to let DirectShow-enabled players such as Windows Media Player handle a wide variety of audio and video formats.

Unlike the Standard edition, Advanced also included mainstream encoding components for users producing audio and video files. Its installer grouped the components into selectable options and warned about combinations that could create conflicts.

Historical release

The final Cole2k Media Advanced page documented version 8.0.6. It included components such as ffdshow, LAV Video and Audio, XviD, x264 VFW, Lagarith, AC3Filter, LAME ACM, Haali Media Splitter, LAV Splitter and DirectVobSub, with both 32-bit and 64-bit components where available.

Why the download changed

The old Cole2k mirrors are no longer maintained. To avoid sending users to dead or outdated files, this page now directs downloads to the actively maintained Media Player Codec Pack Plus package.

Legacy codec and format support

Codec Pack Advanced combined DirectShow filters, VFW encoders and audio codecs for formats commonly used on Windows, including AVI, MKV, MP4, H.264/AVC, XviD, AC3, DTS, AAC, MP3, FLAC and subtitles.

Components in the final 8.0.6 generation

The final generation included ffdshow, LAV Video, LAV Audio and LAV Splitter, XviD, x264 VFW, Lagarith Lossless Video, AC3Filter, LAME ACM, Haali Media Splitter and DirectVobSub/VSFilter. Advanced was aimed at users who wanted playback support plus additional encoding components.

Legacy Windows compatibility

The original releases targeted Windows systems including Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows Vista and Windows XP, in both x86 and x64 environments where supported by the included components. This compatibility information is historical and should not be read as a recommendation to run unsupported operating systems today.
